Question

Is it legal or right for a witness in a trial after testifying to go sit with the prosecutor and help him afterwards? Even if witness is a probation officer?

Answer

nothing illegal about it. possibly not a wise choice if defence can place doubt on. his credibility

Answer

If the witness is under "the rule", the judge must excuse said witness (which can happen if that witness is not expected to testify again.) If the witness is sort of an "expert", experts are allowed to sit at and help the prosecution. Frankly, the jury identifies the probation officer as part of the prosecution so there is no real harm except to the credibility of the witness.
