Does proceeds equal profit when donating to a nonprofit organization?
No. Nonprofit organizations have expenses to pay as well such as rent, salaries, and utilities. The only real difference between a for profit company and a not for profit company, is that unlike a for profit company, if a non-profit makes a "profit" its pays no taxes.
Unlike a for-profit organization, a qualifying non-profit may also be tax-exempt, under rules of the Internal Revenue Code, provided it follows the rules for distributing any profit it makes. If it fails to fully qualify for tax-exemption, the non-profit may owe income taxes on at least some of its income, both at the state and federal levels.
