Question

I got a speeding ticket for going 29 in a 20mph school zone. However, it was not an active school zone at the time and the posted speed limit on the road is 30. My ticket is stamped 8:21am - the school zone is active 8:35-9:35am. On the ticket it says that I was going 29 in a 20. I am considering fighting this ticket myself - any thoughts on if I need a lawyer or if it's straight forward enough for me to handle on my own? I plead not guilty and have a final hearing date - but it was just postponed because of an officer continuance.

Answer

Yes I strongly suggest you get a lawyer. While it sounds like you have a good defense, cops often show up with little surprises of their own regarding the facts and a good attorney can cross examine on those alleged facts.
