What is self-defeating behavior within leadership?

What is self-defeating behavior within leadership?
That would be anything that is done intended as a managerial decision or idea that actually is negative or counterproductive to its intentions. An example of this would be if a manger comes by too often to check in on progress and question the people they manage which, if overburdening, may reduce their productivity level or distract them, which works against what a manager should do.
