Question

My boyfriends xwife came to my home and rang my doorbell, she has also sent text messages to my phone - all under the guise "asking a question for the kids". I do not know how this woman obtained my phone number or home address. I would like to inform her any future contact will be considered harassment and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Am I correct in this course of action?

Answer

Ringing a doorbell or sending a text message asking about one's child is hardly criminal and without other extreme circumstances is very unlikely to be considered harassment.

Although not suggested by your post, in extreme circumstances ringing a doorbell (say in the middle of the night without reason on several occasions) or texting (say if someone texted threats of violence or sent numerous unwelcome, mean or nasty texts after being asked to stop) could constitute harassment. Such questions are very fact specific and not easily answered in an online post.

If you have further questions you are encouraged to seek legal advice.
