I found a mechanic through my work and offered him to work on my car. He came over to my house to fix the problem but ended up not being able to fix it that day. He mentioned that he didn't have any gas in his car so i gave him $30 based on the agreement that it will go towards his service charge. He also said that he can get a part i needed for my car through his old job for $30 but i needed to give him money , so he can go and buy it, The next day he came over to my job and picked up another $30 for the part. Ever since then i have not seen him, He claimed he was the hospital in another state three days ago. But now doesn't respond to my messages nor answer phone calls.Is there anything i can do to get my money back?

In Ohio, you can certainly sue him under the consumer sales practices act. But since it does not sound like you have any information on where he lives, it will be difficult to serve him with a copy of the complaint. Further, it might not make any sense to pay an attorney to recover $60 in a lawsuit. Lastly even if you did get a judgment against this person, if he has to borrow $30 from you for gas I doubt you'll ever seen any money out of him pursuant to a court judgment.

The lesson here is not to advance any money until the job is done to your satisfaction.
