Yes, we have moved to Cuenca. We were thinking of buying but the market here jumped so quickly with all the expats moving here and buying without negotiating the price. We have decided to rent as it is very reasonable, and the Ecuadorians love expats because they are very reliable and usually update the rentals! Checking the blogs and local newspapers or just getting on the street and looking is the best way to find anything for sale or rent. The construction here is all block, the unfurnished rentals do not include your appliances. You will have to buy those. If you don't have much time it is best to talk with the locals who live here and find a reputable person to take you around. Most here will charge you a hourly fee for transporting you around. If you are interested in buying be sure you get an attorney, the laws here change quickly and you need to be represented. Again. Do not buy sight unseen, here in Ecuador your house may look wonderful in the photos, but your view may be of a pig farm or auto body shop.
