My boyfriend sub leased an apartment to me and is now going to sue me, but the sub lease was illegal. Do I have to pay?

A sublease is not "illegal." It may or may not violate his lease. He also may be bluffing. If he sues and you lose the case, yes you have to pay. One obvious solution is that, regardless of the legal issues, if you agreed to pay rent, honor your obligation, move on, and let him worry about issues with his landlord.
