What are disadvantages and advantages?
The two words "advantage" and "disadvantage" are opposites, advantage being the positive term while disadvantage is the negative.
According to the Oxford Dictionary of Current English, here are the exact definitions of the two words:
Advantage: 1 beneficial feature. 2 benefit, profit. 3 (often followed by over) superiority. 4 (in tennis) the next point after deuce.
Disadvantage: 1 unfavourable circumstance or condition. 2 damage; loss.
To put it simply, disadvantages and Advantages are simply another way of saying "Pros and Cons," or anything within that idea.
An example of when disadvantages and advantages can be used could be as follows:
Say you need to make a decision on whether or not you want to stay out later with your friends then you are supposed to, the ADVANTAGES of that are that you get to be with your friends longer and could potentially have more fun, while the DISADVANTAGES are that you could lose you're opportunity go out with your friends again and may be grounded all while losing the trust of whoever allowed you to go out in the first place.
Advantages are good things.
Disadvantages are bad things.
Advantages are the upside of something whereas disadvantages are the down side
eg. An advantage of having a car is that you can travel large distances quickly and a disadvantage would be fuel costs or road tax.
In a battle, an advantage would be high ground whereas poorly trained soldiers/warriors would be a disadvantage.
Hope this helps!
