What would a sentence look like for someone who misappropriated funds from a nonprofit but paid them back before charges were ever filed? He was under the impression that he was borrowing the money and did pay it back but charges of theft and misappropriating funds have been filed.

Depends on the amount stolen, the group stolen from, the attitude of the prosecutor, the attitude of the complainant, etc. I would expect that the defendant would get a deferred adjudication offer - but there could be jail time as a condition.....
