The above is not a very helpful answer. If you have been contactedby a company claiming you owe them money the first thing you mustdo is find out who is billing you and what you are being billedfor. If you do not believe you are responsible for the payment,then you must gather documentation (proof) that you are notresponsible. You may want to ask whoever is billing you to provideproof that you agreed to be responsible for payment. Example: isthere a contract with your signature on it. You can not refuse topay a bill simply because you do not feel that is should be yourresponsibility. If you shared responsibility for the utility billwith a room mate for example, and you moved out, you are stillresponsible as long as you are showing on the lease agreement andthe utility agreement. Contact the company and find out what youneed to do to end your responsibility, which will include bringingthe bill current before cancelling out of the agreement.
